aireanaWe are a group of women working for lesbian rights and for all persons to live their sexuality in freedom. We want a Paraguayan society and a world without discrimination, where diversity equals richness and not inequalities.
What does our name mean?AIREANA reflects our stand about life: bringing our desires, thoughts, identities, feelings out into the open... AIREA: imperative form of the ver “airear”, to air, to ventilate, to bring into the open air. NA: Guarani suffix that can be translated as “please” (Guarani is one of Paraguay’s Indigenous languages, enjoying the status of an official language together with Spanish) Why do we exist? To work for lesbian rights and for non-discrimination from a Feminist perspective. We do it through creating a space as a point of reference, placing our issues in the public discourse, lesbian advocacy and visibility, and producing and sharing information on sexual diversity issues.
The world we want...Equitable societies (at all levels), with equality between women and men, without discrimination (free from Racism, Xenophobia, Homo/Lesbophobia, etc.), open to diversity; where to be lesbian becomes the most ordinary thing, where there is freedom to express one’s feelings, to practice one’s sexuality and we women own our bodies. We want to live in democracies, where secular states and pluralism are realities (without any kind of Fundamentalisms) Our vision is of a world where all human rights belong to all people
Since when does Aireana exist?Aireana was born in February 2003 and it is the first and only organized lesbian group in Paraguay. We have been legally registered as an organization since August 24, 2005.
