Aireana, paraguayan lesbian rights group meets Gloria Rubn, womens minister and presents her with a wondrous vulva puppet
Monday, April 6, 2009
Aireana, Paraguayan Lesbian Rights Group, suggested to the Womens Secretariat a government body under the Paraguayan President Office that any requests for legal and psychological counsel by lesbian women reaching the office be referred to them. They also demanded that the Secretariat makes its non-discrimination policy public, showing their respect for the diversity of women and paying attention to lesbian specificities.
Aireana also presented to the Minister a proposal for including lesbians in the National Equal Opportunities Plan 2008-2017.
As had been expected, the Minister, Ms. Gloria Rubn, was open to this possibility and stated that lesbian visibility will not be restricted to issues of violence but could also include other aspects of the struggle against prejudice and discrimination inside and outside the State machinery.
At the end of the meeting, Aireana presented the Minister with a Wondrous Vulva Puppet made in Peru, a symbol of womens pleasure, reminding her that life is also to be enjoyed and that lesbians are citizens and right-bearers.
